Better Business Cases Foundation and Practitioner course

    The International Better Business Cases™ course is a globally embraced initiative jointly developed by HM Treasury and the Welsh Government with the objective of enhancing the capabilities of individuals involved in the preparation or evaluation of business cases. The framework and tools provided in the course can be adopted and adapted by decision-makers at all levels in the private, public and third sectors, as well as their professional advisors, to enhance the effectiveness and transparency of their decision-making processes.

    The Better Business Cases™ training program consists of two components: the "Foundation" and "Practitioner" levels. These levels are assessed based on the UK’s HM Treasury's Green Book Guidance on Public Sector Business Cases Using the Five Case Model. It is mandatory to successfully complete the Foundation level before attempting the Practitioner level.

Exam Format:

  • The Foundation level is completed over two days. This includes one hour of pre-course, self-directed classroom learning of 12 hours of and examination at the conclusion of the second day.
  • The Foundation level is assessed via a 40-minute closed book multiple choice examination, externally examined by APMG.

  • 2-day virtual tutor-led weekly and weekend courses
  • 2-day corporate on-site courses
  • Day 1 ­ Overview of the Better Business Cases™ Model ­ Case studies and classroom discussion: – Identifying appropriate application of Better Business Case model tools and approaches – Reviewing examples of business cases and drawing out relevant lessons.
  • Day 2 ­ Examination preparation, examination practice and review ­ Overview of Guidance ­ Examination
  • Day 3 – Practitioner Examination and Courseand Exam Review

Exam Format:

  • The Practitioner level is completed over two days. This includes classroom learning and a sample examination at the conclusion of the second day.
  • The knowledge gained at the Practitioner course is assessed through a two-and-a-half-hour closed-book multiple-choice examination, externally marked by APMG.
  • On successful completion of the Practitioner examination, you will receive an internationally recognized certificate from the accrediting body, APMG.
