The MSP® course materials are based on the 2011 edition of “Managing Successful Programmes” and include examinations based on this manual.
The MSP® Foundation and Practitioner course is designed to maximise delegates’ potential in the MSP® training environment. Following confirmation of booking, delegates will be sent the carefully-selected pre-course work to the delegate. This will require around 15 hours of study prior to the course start date. The MSP® Foundation and Practitioner training event is an intensive 5-day course that includes the MSP® Foundation and Practitioner examinations. The first 3 days are for the Foundation course and examination while the remaining 2 days covers the Practitioner examination preparation and the Practitioner exam. Upon booking, Joining Instructions that describe the course location and other administrative details will be sent.
Multiple choice examination, 75 questions per paper with 1 mark available per question, 5 questions to be trial and not counted in scores. 35 marks required to pass (out of 70 available) - 50%, 60 minutes’ duration, closed book exam. Please note that success in the Foundation examination is a prerequisite for that candidate to move forward to the Practitioner examination.
An 80 question Objective Test Examination with a pass mark of 40 out of 80. Open Book with the official course manual only allowed with a duration of 2.5 hours. Success in this examination indicates that the candidate could apply MSP® to the running and management of a non-complex programmes. MSP® Practitioners should be re-registered every 3 to 5 years via the MSP® Re-Registration examination.
3 questions, each worth 10 points. 15 marks or are needed (30 in total) to pass. Duration - one hour and 15 minutes. Open book with only the MSP Official Manual.
A 2000 - 4000 word dissertation (suggested target 2500 words) on a specific subject (selected from a range of topics) demonstrating application of MSP®. It would ideally be based on a real life programme that the candidate has worked within. If this is not possible (if a candidate has not recently worked within a programme or their programme contains classified information), it would be acceptable to base it on the Advanced Practitioner Case Study MSP Care. There are no time restrictions imposed on this dissertation. The dissertation will be marked out of a possible 75 marks with the candidate needing 38 marks to achieve a pass. Should the candidate fail the Re-registration, feedback will be provided. The candidate is permitted to update and re-submit their paper, however should this second attempt be a fail and detailed feedback is given then the candidate must submit a new paper. Instead of the re-registration paper, a candidate also has the option to sit the full Advanced Practitioner examination to re-register at this level.
The MSP® Foundation and Practitioner 5-day course follows a two-part structure. The first three days of the course involve familiarization with the content of the MSP® manual, preparing for the Foundation examination. Following successful completion of the Foundation examination, delegates will spend one-day preparing for the MSP® Practitioner examination, sitting this examination on the final day of the course.
The MSP® Re-Registration Course is a 2-Day Workshop with presentations and discussions on Case Studies, culminating in the Re-Registration examination in the second day.
The MSP® Advanced Practitioner Course is a 2-Day Workshop with presentations and discussions on a Supplied Case Study culminating in the Advanced Practitioner examination in the second day.
